Semper Fidelis OMNA
By George Risko

On November 10, 2017 the United States Marine Corps will celebrate its 242nd birthday. Formed at Tunn Tavern, on November 10, 1775, the USMC has gone on to deliver over two centuries of honorable and faithful service to the United States. In those years, the USMC has built up many men and women who then moved on into civilian life, taking with them the proud traditions and leadership qualities learned in the Corps.

The Wildland Fire Leadership Development Program finds its own roots in military leadership fundamentals and practices. Many people involved with the NWCG Leadership curriculum have developed and attended staff rides and other amazing experiential learning opportunities facilitated by OMNA.

The most rewarding part of working with OMNA is getting to know the members of the team as they impart wisdom earned and lessons learned from their personal experiences.

So on this Marine Corps birthday, please join me in saluting the OMNA Marines and their service:

Special thank you to LtCol Eric Carlson USMC (Ret.) for providing information and photos.

To the OMNA Marines and Marines everywhere, Happy Marine Corps birthday and Semper Fidelis. To all veterans on this Veteran’s Day we salute you and extend a heartfelt thank you for your service.

The author himself was a Marine Corps recruit in 1988 at Parris Island SC, and is very thankful he was in great hands moving forward.
